He received his first (Shodan) and second (Ni Dan) degree rank promotions from Shidoshi Mark Russo, who is a Master Instructor in To Shin Do Ninjutsu, and holder of black belt ranks in four other martial art disciplines. Shidoshi Russo has studied extensively with An Shu Stephen K. Hayes, who developed the To Shin Do Ninjutsu training program, as well as with the 34th Grandmaster (Soke) of Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi.

Sensei Ellery is originally from Australia, and moved to the United States in 1987. He received a Ph.D. in Education from the Ohio State University in 1991 where he specialized in physical education instruction for children with special needs (adapted physical education). Sensei Ellery has taught physical education in both Australian and United States schools, and has served as a faculty member with a number of universities here in the United States. He is married with two children, and now lives in Muncie, IN where he divides his time teaching in the Cornerstone Taijutsu program, and running E2 Praxis LLC, a small consulting firm that focuses on developing solutions to health issues in the community.
